STAY TUNED....HOPEFULLY IN JUST A FEW DAYS WE WILL HAVE OUR OWN AIR QUALITY MONITOR AND CAN MAKE OUR OWN MEASUREMENTS....IF YOU COME ACROSS A FIRE THAT IS CLEARLY ILLEGAL, MESSAGE MY PHONE @ 858610-0181 AND LET ME KNOW WHERE IT IS AND WE WILL COME AND MAKE A FEW MEASUREMENTS.
The smoke was so pervasive in recent months that we were driven inside with windows closed. Fortunately, we have A/C. But even then, we could smell the smoke. The CDC came out with a warning for Californians to avoid being exposed to the smoke from forrest fires because of the increased vulnerability to the COVID virus.
I think the triangle picture is fairly obvious. The combination of COVID plus beach fire smoke and particulate plus smoke and particulate from California forrest fires is a bad combination for humans.
These are two pictures taken with a microscope at forty times magnification. While the shirt from which the dust and carbon particulate was taken was exposed for an extended period, it is still not the kind of matter that we want to see in our lungs.
Many of us have tried over the years to get the City or County air pollution people to come down to the beach and make measurements of the air. Once quantified, we feel there is a good chance that the City and County cannot ignore the problem. So, I purchased a reasonable quality portable air quality monitor. It is a model S500 Portable PM10/2.5 Monitor. It is capable of recording data on an internal memory and then transferred to an Excel spreadsheet. We won't have to record the data by hand, so this should help with credibility of the data. The device has a broad range of uses, but initially we will focus on small particulate here and in Pacific Beach.
