Re: Request to withdraw consideration of a Section 55 Charter Amendment for submittal to the Voters of San Diego allowing for authorization of a future Aquatic Safety and Junior Lifeguard Center to be located at Bonita Cove within Mission Bay Park.

Council President Gomez and Councilmembers,

The Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego requests that consideration of an Aquatic Safety and Junior Lifeguard Center item to be withdrawn from consideration.

We believe that resolving the land use and siting issues for a new Aquatic Safety and Junior Lifeguard Center should remain a priority of the City and the Rules Committee for 2021 and 2022.

However, due to COVID-19, the Lifeguard Division and Park and Recreation Department are currently focused on immediate public safety and health priorities. In addition, COVID-19 has created issues around public gathering and social distancing which has made scheduling community meetings difficult the past few months to obtain public review from community and advisory groups.

We look forward to supporting the Lifeguard Chief and Park and Recreation Director to achieve the vision of the Aquatic Safety and Junior Lifeguard Center. Respectfully,

Corey McClelland Corey McClelland, CEO, Chairman of the Board Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego Formerly The San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation P.O Box 90622 San Diego, CA 92169 http://preventdrowningfoundation.org info@preventdrowningfoundation.org A nonprofit public benefit corporation IRC Section 501 (c) (3) Number: 26-4824510
