NEED TO START REPORTING NUISANCE SHORT TERM RENTALS Mara Elliott does not want them, but she is it!

Updated: Aug 23

You can tailor the letter below and send it to Mara. She will not be more receptive than right now with the election pending. Provide as many details as possible and incident reports, but better to do it now than wait to collect documentation. We need to turn in as many as possible.

Subject: Report of Nuisance Property in Mission Beach at 817 Isthmus Court, San Diego, CA 92109

Dear Ms. Elliott:

While there are numerous short term rentals in Mission Beach that created problems for neighbors, this letter brings to your attention a property that has repeatedly proven to stand out. Numerous incident reports have been made with the San Diego Police Department with little or no conformance by the owner to public standards of behavior. Virtually every type of nuisance behavior has been recorded by year around neighbors. Unfortunately for neighbors, this property matches the description that includes violent behavior directed towards neighbors.

The Nuisance Abatement Unit (NAU) is a specialized unit within the City Attorney’s Office devoted to aggressively enforcing public nuisance, land use, and environmental laws in the City of San Diego. NAU works in partnership with City departments, Council Offices, community groups, and the police to proactively preserve and enhance the quality of life in our communities. The unit serves as a nationwide model to cities seeking to establish an aggressive nuisance abatement program. NAU is committed to protecting each of our diverse communities and our environment.

In addition, a review of the list of properties that have secured a Transient occupancy Tax (TOT) certificate and are paying their TOT reveals that the owner of this property has ignored these responsibilities.

§ Zoning violations, such as unpermitted uses and illegal dwelling units.

This letter is a request for the NAU to investigate this property including obtaining all SDPD records of incidents associated with this property address as well as interviews with neighbors that will confirm that this property owner completely ignores his/her responsibilities to this community and in fact has become such a nuisance to the quality of life of the residents on Isthmus court that see no other alternative but to make this request.

I would suggest that one of your first interviews of neighbors should be Greg Knight.

Regards,

Gary Wonacott
