The Mission Beach Town Council in their most recent post is asking for us to respect the police and lifeguards, or it might delay further opening of the beach. In the same breath, they are asking us to join the town council.
To be clear, the residents of San Diego and Mission Beach have demonstrated for the past two months that we support our police and our lifeguards. We really do not need to be reminded to do this, and yet, the town council felt compelled to put this message out. Why? Because some of the town council Board members are concerned about their short term rental businesses. The sooner that beaches open up, the sooner they can encourage their visitors to stream back into Mission Beach.
If they wanted the beach to open rapidly, they would be pushing for a moratorium on vacation rentals in Mission Beach. It is these visitors who will ignore the rules just as they have in the past. Do you recall all of the short term rental people riding scooters illegally in Mission Beach last summer. What do you think they are going to do this summer.
So, no please do not join the Mission Beach Town Council. In the not too distant future, there will be an alternative to the town council that will put residents first. RESIDENTS FIRST! It is time to send the town council a message.
